Project info

This challenging project for Viori was one of the more rewarding I've worked on this year. I modelled the soap bars from basic photo reference, using a combination of displacement and subd. I drew the patterns in Illustrator and created the height maps in Photoshop. The exception was the Citrus Yao (the one with citrus segments), which I modelled completely in subd, as it seemed the easier path. The height maps were combined in Modo with a damage map to break up the surface, and a number of albedo, roughness and normal maps to create a complex, natural looking surface. I then modelled the packaging, which was initially a French tuck carton, but later changed to the accordion pack. Each scent variation was required to be shown with a section of key ingredients. Most of these were researched and purchased from various asset libraries and then customised to improve quality. I created the rice myself. The foam was initially created by Kimo using Dex particles, and thanks to his help I was able to make my own versions later, which are featured here. However, I would still like to experiment with a more art-directed bubble distribution. Rendering was done with Octane for Modo.
