Timber Bridge

Project info

Here's my semester project. It is a timber and concrete bridge cross the Svelvik strait in southern Norway. The bridge has two lanes for traffic, and a covered pedestrian walkway under the roadway. The main span is approx. 180m.

The rendering was done in Modo (of course). It was 4000 x 2500 px and completed in just over an hour. The bridge was modeled/scripted in Rhino with Grasshopper, and is built from 50.000 objects. The roadway was UV-mapped in Modo, which was a lot easier than I had expected. The cars are Modo presets and the houses were modeled in Modo, while the ship is from Google 3d-warehouse. The terrain is a flat subdivided plane with a floating point displacement texture generated from 1m-accuracy GIS data. The terrain texture is a color-corrected aerial photo.

Some post-processing in Photoshop. I tried adding trees, and som subtle volumetrics to the render, but that made the renders extremely slow.
